Thomas Tuchel admits ‘anger’ over Brentford & Real Madrid defeats

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has admitted he admonished his players after a five-day period in which they were beaten twice at home and conceded seven times in the process.

The Blues were thrashed 4-1 by Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday before slipping to a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final first leg four days later.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of travelling to Southampton back in domestic action on Saturday, Tuchel revealed that his players’ shortcomings had been pointed out in a meeting and insisted Chelsea could not take a third-placed finish for granted.

“It was not a discussion type of meeting, I gave my point of view,” he said, smiling.

“We take the players’ view very seriously and into account but over the last two games we thought it necessary to give our point of view – but behind closed doors where everyone can take criticism.
