The Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi will be one of the venues for the 2022-23 Indian Super league season starting in October this year.
This stadium is the home ground of Kerala Blasters FC and will play host to 10 games in the next campaign.
The Greater Kochin Development Authority (GCDA) has handed out their full support to Kerala Blasters for the forseeable future and will take initiatives to make the stadium better in terms of facilities including multi-level parking.
Moreover, GCDA will also launch Kerala’s first football museum which will be under the stewardship of the club.
As reported by ITDC news, GCDA chairman K. Chandran Pillai and KBFC director Nikhil Bhardwaj addressed the media.
Mr. Pillai said, “Witnessing the enthusiasm, support and excitement of the football fans in Kerala, we aspire to make the stadium greater! We intend to keep our collaboration with Kerala Blasters stronger going forward. The amenities and facilities that are added to the stadium will benefit the development of football field in Kerala.”
Mr. Bhardwaj added, “Our collective vision is to work towards a long-term relationship between GCDA and Kerala Blasters for the betterment of the football ecosystem in Kochi. I have no doubts that football in Kochi will flourish and make great leaps with the support of our respected GCDA chairman. We thank them for their support and thoroughly look forward to receiving all our fans back at the Kaloor.”
Kerala Blasters witnessed an incredible 2021-22 season as they managed to reach the final of the Indian Super League yet again, however went home trophyless after a penalty shootout loss to Hyderabad FC.
However, this news will be welcomed with loads of enthusiasm as the Blasters are set to play 10 games in front of their incredible supporters in the stadium.
