Gio Reyna out for the season with muscle injury

USMNT figure Gio Reyna will sit out the rest of the season after suffering another injury during Borussia Dortmund’s match against Stuttgart on Friday.

The midfielder started the game, playing for just 77 seconds before planting his left leg awkwardly and exiting the field in tears.

“Borussia Dortmund suffered three new injuries in last Friday’s 2-0 win in Stuttgart. Midfielder Gio Reyna, who had to be substituted early in the game, suffered a muscle and tendon injury. The season is over for the American,” Dortmund revealed in a statement.

The devastating news comes after Reyna recently recuperated from two other issues. His injury-hit campaign has seen the midfielder feature in only 13 games for Dortmund across all competitions.

The promising attacking midfielder previously missed five months of action for Dortmund when suffering a hamstring lesion in the United States’ first World Cup qualifying match on September 2. He sat out for half of the season before returning on February 6. Reyna made his first start on February 20, briefly playing before being forced off again due to a second injury.
