Aston Villa predicted lineup vs Leeds

[ad_1]

Aston Villa return to Premier League action when they host Leeds on Wednesday night following the winter break.

The Villans have enjoyed some extended time off having been knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round, and manager Steven Gerrard will hope that extra rest will help his side pull away from mid-table in the coming weeks.

This is the first time Villa have faced Leeds this season after December’s meeting was postponed due to Covid-19.

Here’s the XI Gerrard will likely deploy…

Ezri Konsa

Emiliano Martinez (GK) – A guaranteed starter. Recovered to keep a clean sheet against Everton last time out after his horrible error in the draw with Man Utd.

Matty Cash (RB) – Villa will need the Poland international’s intensity and physicality against an intense and physical opponent.

Ezri Konsa (CB) – Enjoying another good season and was imperious in the victory over Everton.

Tyrone Mings (CB) – Has put some wobbly form behind him and was another who shone against the Toffees, making a goal-line clearance and a number of key interventions.

Lucas Digne (LB) – Initially ousted Matt Targett from the starting lineup and then saw him leave altogether in January. Has to start because there isn’t really anyone else.

Douglas Luiz

Douglas Luiz (DM) – Subject of interest throughout the January transfer window, Luiz ultimately stayed at Villa Park. Should be well rested having been left out of the Brazil squad for their World Cup qualifiers.

John McGinn (CM) – If anyone can match the intensity of Leeds United, it’s John McGinn. The Scot has been the picture of consistency of late.

Jacob Ramsey (CM) – Ramsey’s breakthrough season will continue here. It’ll be a performance about grit and hard work, rather than anything flashy.

Emi Buendia

Emiliano Buendia (RW) – His Villa career has been a slow burner but we may finally see full ignition following his winner at Goodison Park last time out. Has been away on Argentina duty, but was only afforded ten minutes of action.

Ollie Watkins (ST) – The striker will be looking to get back in the goals having failed to score in three consecutive matches for the first time since early in the season.

Philippe Coutinho (LW) – Started both of Brazil’s games during the break but he should have had enough rest to start again. The Seleçao’s most recent game was last Wednesday.
